Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act

WIOA is landmark legislation that is designed to strengthen and improve our nation's public workforce system and help get Americans, including youth and those with significant barriers to employment, into high-quality jobs and careers and help employers hire and retain skilled workers.

Services for Job Seekers and Employers at Maui American Job Center 


Computer Resource Center (Self-help)

  • Access to computer and internet

  • Search online and apply directly for hundreds of jobs at

  • Create or update your resume

  • File an unemployment insurance claim


General and Individualized Career Service

  • Assistance with job searching and resume building

  • Labor market information

  • Referrals to community resources for support services, such as financial assistance, medical benefits, childcare, therapeutic counseling, and credit counseling

  • Intensive case management, which includes skills assessments, career planning, and one-on-one job counseling

  • Work-based training opportunities and financial assistance for employment-related skills training for in-demand occupations to eligible participants

  • Information on how to learn and earn through Pre-apprenticeship/apprenticeship programs.

Additional Resources for People Who Meet these Criteria

  • You are receiving or eligible for unemployment insurance benefits

  • You meet income eligibility guidelines based on your family's income for the past year.

  • Services are available to individuals representing the full range of physical, mental, cognitive, and sensory disabilities.


The Maui AJC is here to assist job seekers and employers. We aim to connect businesses and community members in Maui County.

Employers are able to:

  • Post their job openings

  • Search through resumes for possible candidates

  • Access industry statistics and much more


An employer may also receive direct referrals from HireNet Hawaii's virtual recruiter to assure they get the best match for their positions.

NOTE:  The services above are part of the federal "Workforce Investment Act of 1998."  In this Act, the federal government organizes these services for adults into two program categories.
